Artist: Phrenelith Label: Nuclear Winter Records Year: 2021
Denmark’s Phrenelith is another division of death metal. Their latest offering ‘Chimaera’ is uniquely evil.
The atmosphere, and sheer blatant evil tremolo picking, sets the tone for the entire album. What we have here folks is a weekend with a Demonologist, off the grid!! The entire first side is like a spell conjuring the nether region. By the time you flip it to side B you discover you are on a evil riff laden trip to Hell.
The cassette itself is simple in design but sounds phenomenal! This has a run time of 31 minutes across 7 tracks.
If you are a fan of death metal, you’ll love everything this album has to offer! I promise many return visits! 4/5 Coffins ⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️

Artist: Vile Apparition / Miscreance Label: Desert Wasteland Productions Year: 2021
This is one of the first cassettes I received in 2022. An offering from Desert Wastelands Productions landing on the technical side of the death metal coin.
Side A: Vile Apparition (AUSTRALIA)
This is a nice offering of technical death metal that is reminiscent of Dying Fetus or others on the brutal end of the spectrum. The guitar work, quick tempo changes, and sweep picking compliments the underlying monstrous vocals. This is an excellent piece of brutal technical death metal with interesting guitar riffs, and drumming. My only complaint is it ends too quickly.
Side B: Miscreance (ITALY)
Side B of the cassette opens with a relentless mix of technical death-thrash. The songs on this side are fun, fast, and thrashy! If you are into blazing solos and fast paced riffs, think Kreator or Sadus, then this side is worth the price of admission alone. The songs are well written, and, at times, the tempo changes are unmatched.
This is a great split showcasing two aspects of what technical metal is capable of. Both sides are definitely worth a listen.
