Artist: Defacement Label: Total Dissonance Worship Year: 2021
Defacement is a trio hailing from Utrecht, Netherlands.
Fans of atmospheric death/black metal bands would be enthralled to hear their self titled release. The opening track is a intro, that also starts the interludes weaved into the album. There are a total of four segue tracks, with more interludes within the songs themselves. Trust me, they are needed, as the album takes you through a sonic wall of blackened death metal. The interlude tracks act as a moment to breathe. Defacement intensity is unrelenting like heart burn after Dominos. Honestly, this band is playing so fast and brutally, it impressed me! This isn’t a collection of short rippers but intense, progressive songs. The longer track lengths aren’t as daunting, as this album is best suited for a full album listen. It is hard for me to separate the tracks from the whole piece; which is awesome! I feel more modern bands need to write more cohesive albums, and you get that with Defacement.
The cassette itself is rad and is hand numbered with an OBI strip, from Total Dissonance Worship. The cassette is just under 40 minutes of play time, with four tracks each side.
If you like Ulcerate, Abysmal, or Portal’s more organized moments; this is definitely for you! 4/5 Coffins ⚰️ ⚰️⚰️⚰️

Artist: Traffic Death Label: Sump Pump Records Year: 2021
I first heard of Traffic Death navigating the world of VHS collecting. During my journey I stumbled upon the vocalist Instagram account that lead us here.
This is my first physical record from the crossover band from Iowa. My first impression was a good one with a gnarly sound clip to start the record off.
The sound clips are probably one of my favorites aspects of this record. If you look on the inside of the gatefold, you can tell they are carefully chosen.
The music is killer! Great intensity to all the songs. If you are a fan of crust, grindcore, or thrash, this is for you!
Keep in mind they’re 23 tracks but not all are traditional songs. Don’t worry, I promise you won’t feel cheated from songs. They’re still plenty.
This is a really fun record that was worth every penny. There’s a lot of great moments on this album. Definitely worth checking out! It might open some doors for you! 4/5 coffins ⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️ |
