​Penny Coffin is a Scottish/Greek 4-piece death-doom band. 

The cassette released via Dry Cough Records is a great way to introduce themselves to the metal world. 

This cassette, to my understanding, is a compilation of earlier work in 2021 on Side A, and new material on side B. 

The release is called 
ΤΕΦΡΑ / ΣΚΕΛΕΤΙΚΟ ΣΚΟΤΑΔΙ 

Side A is really captivating with seamless progressions throughout the three songs.

​To put it bluntly, the first two songs on side A have a ton of intensity, while the last song on side A is more of a doom or sludge song. The best way I can describe it is a zombie sliming its way towards eternal life on Earth.

Side B is my favorite. The new material is more in your face and the riffs are incredibly memorable. Side B had sort of a doom center piece sandwiched  between  some brilliant rippers of death metal. 

Overall the riffs are smart, the leads are atmospheric, the vocals sound torturous. 

​I really recommend this band if you like your death doom with more meat on the bone.

This release is highly recommended, and I’m sure it would not disappoint the most jaded of metal heads.

​Hailing from Mexico, Hong Kong Fuck You is a outfit with 3 bass players, a drummer, and they all do vox. 



Look, I know what you are thinking, isn’t that name kinda weird? Well, the story is, according to a interview with No Echo, they founded the name while a member was on drugs and “Hong Kong Fuck You” was all he could muster to speak. Offensive? Maybe. Understandable given the circumstances? Totally!

This release is from Indonesia and was sent to me a year ago by the head of Heavy & Fast Records & Distro.

Contained in this ball breaker cassette is three releases from a band with the hardest bass riffs, drums, and nonsensical vocals. It’s hard not to like this if you love bass riffs!

If you thought World Peace was cool, this is them on Meth with one more night to live. 

This compilation is a release from Grind Today Records. 

Every song is hard hitting with ignorant lyrics and attitude. I am telling you right now this band gives zero fvcks and zero apologies.

If you want a no B.S. Grindcore/Hardcore/PV experience, then listen to any song from HKFY

Sound wise this cassette thumps my house and almost vibrates it to the neighbors property. I can’t recommend this band enough with their unapologetic way to not give a flying fvck. 

My only complaint is, after all the cool riffs and cymbal crashes, it seems to end quickly! I’m left wanting more degenerative songs!


They are such a unique creature, it’s hard not to respect their resolve. On a side note, how many songs about ass eating can there be on a cassette? The answer is many! 



Please just listen to them, especially if you are a bass player. I mean they have three of them!

​Australia’s The Kill is a 3 piece of Grindcore fury I never knew I needed until I blindly ordered this tape from To Live A Lie Records.

They managed to bludgeon me with 15 songs in such a whirlwind of punishing riffs! The drummer is belligerent with fast and smart ear catching fills.

They are at the very core of a grind band. The kind of grind I specifically seek out. I felt I scored big once I popped this in my deck.

The riffs are fast, smart, and well put together. I could listen to this cassette all day. Once they start blasting, you never want them to stop.

​Production wise this sounds impeccable being mastered by the grindfather Scott Hull.

To put it bluntly: if you are a Pig Destroyer fan, or simply like your metal fast & raw, this will be needed in your collection. Side B contains a Slayer cover which blends into this release without a hitch.

Last I knew TLAL has copies left. I wouldn’t hesitate and order this ASAP! As far as I know they are no longer together, but what a lasting impression they had left. 

My favorite track is “Die Hards in Denim.”

If you want a full on assault to your face and ears, please listen to this band. Perfect for any of us bald old Grindcore dudes.
