Released: February, 2020 Label: Self Released? Maul describes themselves as “Death Metal from the upper Midwest.” I’m from the Midwest and as if I couldn’t like this band enough I like them even more now. The start of the EP is a creepy synthy intro then it hammers into the first full song. What I like most about this band? It’s very heavy. Very ferocious off the bat with brilliant riffing and drumming. My favorite part is how much the drummer rides the cymbal bell. Almost violently?! The vocals are on point and sounds like a swamp demon! The vocals do have some dynamics with them too. The vocalist does a great job carrying the intensity of the songs. Everything about this EP is great. The guitar playing, vocals, and nasty grooves. I have listened to this EP repeatedly since I first heard it. There’s never a dull moment. My favorite track is the title track. It’s a prime example of what this band can do. For fans of modern “old school” death metal bands. But good! 4 coffins ⚰️ ⚰️⚰️⚰️
